Photography

“Photography is the story I fail to put into words.”
~ Destin Sparks

Ever since I was a child, I have found a lot of joy in photography - be it appreciating it, being photographed or being the one behind the lens. My father and both my uncles had that love as well and that has distilled into me over the years. When I look through the lens, it transports me to a land of stories - for that moment, I can forget the humdrums of the daily grind and immerse myself in a storyline which can be told through the freeze frame. I do not take photographs to showcase anything, but just to freeze a moment in time - with the hope that maybe someone will be able to see through the photograph and appreciate what caught my eyes.

My interests in photography lie in the beauty of creation - mostly nature and sometimes architecture, sculpture and the arts. Those are the main themes that I have been taking photos of over the years.

Here is a small selection of some shots which I enjoy looking back over and over again. I hope you enjoy watching those as much as I do.

Trees

Be like a tree.
Stay grounded.
Connect with your roots.
Turn over a new leaf.
Bend before you break.
Enjoy your unique natural beauty.
Keep growing.
~ Joanne Rapids

I have always been awed at the beauty of nature. Trees in particular, attract me because of their majesty, presence and calmness. As I see them dance an elegant tango with the wind on stormy days, my mind sways with their movements. Every time I come across an old tree I wonder at how it has seen the world pass by - the many children it has seen grow old and pass on. As they change through the seasons, they teach us the virtues of adaptability, acceptance and perseverance. I am genuinely humbled by their presence amongst us.

We human beings are a part of nature. And yet, in the race to having more and more, we are sacrificing that which sustains all life. These photos are a very small tribute to the immense beauty and wisdom that they hold.

What follows are photos of trees in the different cities and countries I have lived or visited.

Flowers

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
~ John Keats

Very few things give us a feeling of beauty as flowers do. The vibrant colours, the captivating smell and the perfection of creation all entice several of our senses. Gifting of flowers to someone who is feeling down brightens up their mood. Nothing else is used in every single occasion in life like flowers - literally from birth till death.

The following photos are from flower shows, street markets and even my own potted plants.

Dogs

“The difference between friends and pets is that friends we allow into our company, pets we allow into our solitude.”
~ Robert Brault

I have had a love for animals ever since I was a kid. I would shelter street dogs, cats and have even rescued the occasional bird and snake. But I feel a deep sense of love for dogs more than any other creatures.

We used to have a pet Labrador Retriever when I was still in high school and he lived up to a ripe old age of 12. When he passed away, my mother cried as if she had lost one of her sons. Since then, we haven't had any pets. However, I hope to give a rescued canine a home with me sometime in the future. I believe that pets choose us more than we choose them and that they come to us to teach lessons in unconditional love.

The following are photos of street dogs, rescues in pet shelters and also pets of friends and people who have kindly allowed me to photograph them.
